A man shot himself in the parking lot of the Ellsworth Shopping Center on Wednesday afternoon, leading to a heavy police presence and concern among nearby shoppers.
According to Ellsworth Police, officers were called to the scene around 1:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a gunshot.
When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. Authorities say the injury was self-inflicted. He was still alive and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not been made public.
The man was reportedly inside a vehicle when the incident happened. The shooting took place near the former Shaw’s building in the shopping center, which is a busy area in Ellsworth.
Police have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. They also said there is no danger to the nearby businesses or people visiting the mall.
