SWAT Team Arrests Glen Rock Man Accused of Road Rage and Threatening Behavior

A Glen Rock man was arrested by a Bergen County SWAT team after police say a road rage incident escalated into a dangerous situation.

Authorities responded to a report of a threatening driver who allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun during an argument in traffic.

The incident started on Friday evening, May 24, around 6:30 p.m., near Maple Avenue and Prospect Street in Glen Rock, New Jersey.

According to local police, a driver contacted 911 after another motorist—later identified as a 44-year-old Glen Rock man—reportedly made aggressive gestures and displayed a firearm during a road dispute.

The caller told police that the suspect pulled up beside them at a red light, started yelling, and then pointed what looked like a handgun. Fearing for their safety, the driver left the area and called authorities immediately.

Police used license plate information from the complainant to track down the vehicle to the suspect’s home on Maple Avenue.

When officers approached the home to investigate, they reportedly saw the suspect inside. However, he refused to come out and speak with the police.

Because the man was believed to be armed, and due to the threat level, the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team was called in for backup. Officers surrounded the residence and made several attempts to communicate with the individual.

According to police, after hours of failed negotiations, the SWAT team entered the home with a search warrant and safely took the suspect into custody without any injuries.

A search of the home led to the discovery of a replica handgun that was consistent with what the victim had described.

The man was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was taken to Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.

Police emphasized that the weapon involved was not a real firearm, but a replica that could easily be mistaken for one. They also praised the victim for calling the police quickly and providing accurate details that helped them track down the suspect.

The Glen Rock Police Department released a statement on social media, saying the situation could have ended much worse if not for the quick thinking of the victim and the coordinated effort between local officers and the regional SWAT team.

The department also reminded the public about the dangers of escalating road rage. They encouraged drivers to stay calm and avoid confrontations on the road. “If you feel threatened, distance yourself and call 911,” officials said.

No one was injured during the incident, and no shots were fired. Authorities did not release the name of the suspect, but confirmed he is a Glen Rock resident.

Police are continuing the investigation to determine whether the suspect had any prior incidents or was known to law enforcement.
