The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently unveiled its annual report, providing insights into the state’s education system, funding trends, and academic performance. Per-student funding in the 2021-2022 school year averaged $14,928, marking a significant increase of 42% since 2011. However, the report notes that while local funding has seen substantial growth over the past decade, state funding has only risen slightly. According to the report, Texas public schools serve a vast student population of 5.518 million, supported by a dedicated workforce of 371,778 teachers across 9,054 campuses. In mathematics, Texas public school students performed relatively well, ranking 14th among fourth graders but experiencing a slight decline to 25th place for eighth graders. While maintaining a competitive position in math proficiency, there is room for improvement to ensure that students are equipped with strong foundational skills in mathematics.
