Woodville Man Faces Multiple Charges After Corrigan Apartment Shooting

A man from Woodville, Texas, has voluntarily surrendered to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Corrigan Square Apartments in Polk County.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Darius Hawthorne, turned himself in at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Following his surrender, Hawthorne was booked into the Jasper County Jail after an interview with Texas Rangers.

On Wednesday morning, he was transferred to the Polk County Jail to face 10 charges related to the shooting. As of now, his name does not appear on the Polk County jail roster, and no further information has been released regarding the victim’s identity or condition.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Hawthorne and the victim over the treatment of the victim’s son.

The altercation escalated, leading to the shooting. The victim was transported to a hospital in Houston and is reported to be in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are following up on all leads.

Sheriff Chuck Havard of Jasper County expressed appreciation for Hawthorne’s decision to turn himself in, stating that it demonstrates a willingness to cooperate with the legal process. He also emphasized the importance of the ongoing investigation to ensure justice is served.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Texas Rangers and the Corrigan Police Department, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
